Re: [kent-grads] Medieval centre under threat

I think degrees have decreased in value just the same as any other academic qualification over the last 10 years - not because that students aren't working just as hard, but because of the sheer amount of tripe that you can now get degrees in or courses on and the mindset that you must seen to be rewarding students at what they are good at rather failing them in what they are bad at.

I read recently that the pass mark for GCSE maths had to be lowered from 50% to 42% this year, to avoid failing too many students.  I think a look at the whole exams structure from secondary school upwards needs to be looked at, not just the University degree system.

I can say for certain that if I had been faced with having to

wouldn't have gone. No amount of cheap credit would have
persuaded me go £20,000 under.

I feel exactly the same, Daniel. My parents couldn't afford their share of my grant as it was. My kids are coming up to thinking about tertiary education, and I really don't know how we or they are gong to manage, or if it is even worth it any more - if everyone has a degree, what is it actually worth?
